Take on the challenge and turn your room into a place you would love to go home to everyday. With the cost of living steadily rising, we bring inexpensive hacks to make your home look bigger.
- Light colored walls
Your dark colored walls may make your place cozy, however it does not reflect the lights at all. In fact, the dark paint absorbs the light and gives a constricting feel. The lighter colored walls on the other hand creates a roomy illusion. It reflects light to a wider space.
You may also use coordinated colors. Start with your walls and then use its other shades for the other stuff in your room. If you paint your room with opposite colors, it will create an illusion of segments. This will make the room feel smaller.
Another way to use the optical illusion to your advantage is to paint the trims of the rooms with slightly lighter shade than the walls. The walls will seem to be farther away.
Mirrors can create the ultimate illusion of space as it reflects light and create depth or height. Add mirrors to the bare wall or even door. You can place the mirror beside a window or on the doors of your closet.
- Make use of stripes and patterns
Since you want to make the room larger, stripes or patterns can help. The stripes can create an illusion of movement. However, be careful not to break the pattern or stripes with another pattern as this will create a segment that will make the room smaller.
You can either use light colored drapes or no drapes at all (cheaper choice). If you want to hang some drapes, make sure that it is high enough. Mount your drapes a little higher than the window frames, but make sure it will not touch the floor. If your room has a pattern, you can coordinate it with the theme.
- Choose space saving furniture
The less furniture you use, the more room you will have. This is why it is a good thing to have space saving furniture. You can find beds with built-in storages beneath. You can also get folding tables if you can find one.
There are transparent furniture you can also find online with lower prices. It can have the same size as non-transparent furniture but it creates the feeling that it is wider.
Expose the legs of your furniture. There are indeed furniture which seems to have long bare legs. This will make the walls seem far.
- Have a theme with coordinating bold wall art
Match your pillows with a wall art. Just like following a pattern, make a sense of consistency. If you have a lot of books, arrange it in color coded fashion.
- Mount shelves with small lamps
The smaller lamps around the room will spread the light better. A single bigger lamp will not be able to bring light to every space in the room and dark spaces makes the room seem small.
You can put your lamps in shelves or desks near your bed or sofa. Put your books, picture frames or even clothes in the shelves.
- Be creative with beddings
Buy bedding which will coordinate with the room’s theme. If you are undecided of the pattern, choose a light shade that will compliment with the color of the walls.
- Breaking your wall into thirds
If you plan to hang art on your walls, break your walls into thirds. This means that the hanging art must be closer to the lower third part of the wall. Any shelves must be closer to the upper third. Simply, do not put them smack right at the middle.
- Keep things organized
Probably the least expensive tip is to keep your things organize. Keep you loose pennies in a piggy bank, put your pens in jar, fold your clothes neatly and put them in the closet or shelves in your bedroom.
However, this does not mean to fill up all the shelves. It is also important to have empty spaces. If you want to buy some decors, use the cantaloupe rule. It means (as much as possible) avoid using decors smaller than the cantaloupe as it will seem add to the clutter.
Redecorating your home does not need to be expensive. You can just rearrange your stuff and declutter. There is nothing better than a neat looking home. However, if you need a personal loan for a minor home redecoration? Get it from Cash Mart.
